Dentist
Dentists are essential for managing, treating and diagnosing pain or disease in the mouth. A dentist also performs the annual dental examination, also called check-up.
There are several reasons why you might need to see a dentist; emergency situations, issues with your teeth, or routine check-ups. At Aqua Dental we can help you, regardless of the issue.
A dentist has in-depth knowledge of dental care and treats all types of oral and dental problems. In addition to general care, dentists provide emergency services and work on preventing dental issues. They also diagnose and treat conditions affecting the jaw and other parts of the oral system.
A routine check-up at the dentist
The most common reason to visit a dentist is for your annual check-up. During this exam, the dentist evaluates your teeth, gums, and oral mucosa to diagnose any issues and, if needed, plan appropriate treatments. The dentist will also assess your overall oral health and provide recommendation on how to maintain a good dental hygiene. If treatment is needed, such as for cavities or other problems, it will usually be performed by the same dentist, although some procedures might be done by a dental nurse or dental hygienist.
A dentists' primary tasks include filling cavities, performing root canal treatments, conducting minor surgeries, and treating gingivitis, while also focusing on preventive care. Is it time for your annual check-up? Book an appointment with us today.
Different types of dental care
Dentistry encompasses various specialties, and many dentists decide to specialize in different fields by pursuing additional training. To practice as a dentist in Sweden, one must be licensed by Socialstyrelsen after completing their education. It is only after two years of clinical practice that a dentist has the opportunity to further their education as a specialist. Currently, there are nine recognized dental specialties:
- Orthodontics (alignment of teeth)
- Pedodontics (children's dentistry)
- Oral Prosthetics (dentures, implants, and bridges)
- Oral Surgery Endodontics (root canal treatments)
- Periodontology (treatment of gum diseases)
- Bite Physiology (treatment of jaw joint and muscle disorders)
- Dental Radiology
- Orofacial Medicine (comprehensive care that includes the whole body)
Regular checks at the dentist reduce the risk of dental problems
Regular dental visits can prevent severe diseases in the mouth. Many oral infections or injuries are not noticeable until they have progressed significantly, potentially requiring extensive treatment. However, with regular check-ups at the dentist, early signs of disease can be detected and treated promptly, preventing more serious complications.
